Join the Operations Division as a Senior Test and Evaluation Engineer and lead rigorous, mission-focused test efforts that turn complex capabilities into trusted operational advantage.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as a subject-matter expert and advisor to the Director of Operations, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Commander and staff for ground and flight test and evaluation (T&E).
- Utilizes multidisciplinary professional engineering knowledge to apply systems thinking and program management techniques to the detailed planning of AFRL ground and flight tests in a safe and technically rigorous/efficient manner.
- Provides mentoring, coaching, and team-specific training to colleagues.
- Provides expertise, guidance and support with design of experiments, test tactics/techniques/procedures and risk assessment/management for various technology and system test activities.
- Develops and recommends T&E policies among various levels of AFMC, DoD and other Government and contractor agencies impacting AFRL test programs. In doing so, it ensures adherence with military and/or civil statutory/regulatory guidance.
- Develops and implements directive guidance affecting AFRL test programs and subsequent personnel to ensure accurate execution of assigned duties and appropriate discipline in test operations.
- Formulates policy, procedures and concepts related to test operations to ensure proper conduct and stimulate improvement of Science and Technology T&E.
- Advises appointed Configuration Control Board, Safety Review Board and Technical Review Board Chairmen on T&E management and execution processes and procedures.
- Serves as a Safety Review Board member when appointed by AFRL/SE site lead.
- Provides guidance and support to AFRL programs involving T&E activities to ensure safe and efficient test execution.
- Required Qualifications:
- US Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
- Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lowest grade level or equivalent of the position being advertised.
- Engineer (0800): To meet eligibility of an Engineer, applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Degree in Engineering. The program must have been ABET accredited. - Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov.
- Desired Qualifications:
- Intermediate Development Education (IDE)/Senior Development Education (SDE) completed.
- Test Pilot School Graduate.
- 4 years flight test experience (Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or manned flight).
