The Information & Spectrum Warfare Directorate (RF), Judge Advocate Division seeks to hire a Legal Assistant (Office Automation), DU-0986-03 in Rome, New York. The incumbent will serve as the primary Legal Assistant in the Division.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly supports the Staff Judge Advocate by developing and implementing streamlined office management strategies, managing administrative workflows, overseeing internal suspense tracking, and coordinating facility operations and supply inventories.
  • Acts as the primary liaison for internal and external communications, while proactively managing the office master calendar, scheduling complex engagements, and coordinating professional travel and conference logistics.
  • Conducts comprehensive legal research to identify precedent cases and verify citations, drafting high-quality legal documents, client correspondence, and staff packages requiring minimal revision prior to attorney review.
  • Oversees critical office compliance programs, including managing ethics training databases, monitoring public/confidential financial disclosures, and coordinating unit safety, security training, and inspection readiness.
  • Assists in the end-to-end adjudication of Air Force claims, coordinates the onboarding of new personnel, and actively supports the execution of the Legal Assistance and Preventive Law programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DU-02/GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems.

  • Proficiency in conducting targeted legal research, identifying precedent cases, and drafting precise legal documents or correspondence requiring minimal attorney revision.
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee critical compliance programs, including tracking ethics training databases, reviewing financial disclosures, and coordinating unit safety or inspection readiness.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a track record of building successful working relationships and resolving problems across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
