The AFRL Rocket Lab Site Information Technology Branch seeks to hire an experienced Network Operations Lead at the DO-02 level. The position is located at the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB CA.
For more than 60 years, the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB has contributed to several technology developments in rocket engines, including those of Saturn, Titan, Space Shuttle, and all major intercontinental ballistic missiles and current space launchers. Today, the site continues to enable technology leaps in hypersonics, solid rocket boosters, in-space propulsion, and liquid rockets for defense and commercial space in support for the Air & Space Forces.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for leading a team for the daily operations of scientific networks, servers, client support administration, telecommunications, wireless communications, software license management and central computer facility.
- Establishes performance standards and evaluates performance for the branch.
- Provides professional competence in applying foundations of information technology in the support and management of network architectures that satisfy the laboratory’s scientific research missions integrating DoD, Air Force, AFMC, AFRL, and local requirements to maximize and provide continuous, leading edge computing capabilities.
- Manages and oversees network architecture planning, project schedules, software and hardware testing and integration, resource allocation, and IT project costs, including hardware and software requirements.
- Accomplishes additional duties as assigned to support the the greater AFRL mission.
- This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of the position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position. The level and type of certification shall be determined by the supervisor based on the assigned duties of the position.
Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
- Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DO-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level.
Desired Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Certified IAM Level I within the DoD Approved 8570 requirements.
- Significant knowledge of project management within the DOD environment.
- Ability to apply IT security principles, methods, and security products throughout the system life cycle management process.
- Experience in a supervisor role and/or leading teams.
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Information Security, Software Development or equivalent.
- Specialized experience providing the capacity and skills for working independently, leading collaborative events, working in teams and using these approaches to find and solve complex problems. Such experience may also include training, collaborative process facilitation, innovation design practice.
